The majority of libraries have self-service photocopiers which you can use to make copies from books, journals etc. Some photocopier models will enable you to make enlarged or colour copies, or make digital copies that you can e-mail to yourself, or save to a USB drive. If you are unsure how to use the photocopiers there may be printed instructions, or you can ask a member of library staff for help.

Payment 

Payment methods will vary from library to library. Ask the staff at the library you are using about payment methods and charges. 

Copyright issues 

When making photocopies you must act within the laws of copyright, further details of which can be found in the 'copyright' section of this tutorial. As a researcher or student you should know that, for private research only, you are able to photocopy:

• no more than one chapter or five percent of a book, whichever is greater.
• no more than one article from an issue of a journal. 

Preservation

 In order to preserve materials, many libraries, archives or museums will not allow you to copy from items which are vulnerable to damage or are valuable or rare. It may be possible to access a microfilm version or for a member of library staff to make a copy for you, you should enquire at the library, archive or museum.
