Accessing your own library record online

Many library catalogues allow you to access your borrowing record and your contact details online. To use this function you will need to be a member of the library and have a user record on the library system. You will need to know your log-in details for your library record (normally this will be the number on your library/ID card and some form of password only known to you). Functionality varies between systems but most allow you to:

  • Check the items currently issued to your library record.
  • Renew items.
  • Check any fines on your record.
  • Save favourite searches.
  • Set up email alerts when new items matching your favourite searches are added to the catalogue.

It is important that you ask a member of library staff if you experience difficulties accessing your library record as many libraries will temporarily 'block' your ticket and prevent you from using these functions if, for example, you have outstanding fines.

Requesting items

Many library catalogues allow you to place requests on items that are on loan to another user via a 'request' or 'place hold' button. Again, to access this function you will need to be a member of the library and have a user record on the library system.

Ask a member of library staff if you are unsure of how to use any of these functions
