Finding an electronic journal article

If you have a reference to a journal article and would like to find out if there is an electronic version, try the following steps:

  1. Search the library catalogue for the journal title, as some library catalogues include links to electronic journals. If your search is successful, proceed to step 4.
  2. If your search is unsuccessful check the library website for any lists of electronic journal titles.
  3. If an electronic version of the article is not available through the library catalogue or website you may be able to obtain the article another way. Further help is available in the following page, 'finding articles in journals not held by your library'.
  4. In order to access the journal, follow the link provided in the catalogue entry or web list. Be aware that the electronic version may not cover all years.
  5. You may require a password to access the electronic journal, see accessing electronic resources for further information. Select the relevant journal title, volume and article as necessary. Usually, you will have the choice to download, print or read the article on the screen. The article may be in PDF format and require Adobe Acrobat software in order to read it.
